HPDash Racer — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
HPDash, LLC (“HPDash,” “we,” “us,” and “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have, when you use the HPDash Racer mobile application (the “App”) on iOS or Android.
The short version: your logbook, timeslip photos, and run videos live on your phone. The App contains no advertising and no third-party analytics, requires no account, and does not upload your runs, images, or videos anywhere. The only data that leaves your device is your approximate coordinates, sent to public U.S. government and university weather services to fetch local weather and elevation, and ordinary requests for the App’s event listings and map tiles, which carry no personal information.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide. The App does not require an account. The racing data you enter — cars, tracks, runs, timeslip numbers, setup notes — is stored locally on your device only. We cannot see it. If you purchase the optional Racer subscription, the transaction is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play (depending on your device); we receive your subscription status (whether it is active), not your payment-card details or identity. If you use the in-app Feedback panel, it opens your own email app with a pre-filled draft — nothing is sent unless you send it.
Information collected automatically.
- Precise location. With your permission, the App uses your device’s GPS/network location to fetch local weather, to auto-select your saved track, to sort tracks and events by distance, and (with GPS altitude) to calibrate the barometer. Your coordinates (truncated to about four decimal places) are sent to the weather and elevation services listed in Section 3. We do not store or transmit your location anywhere else.
- Barometric pressure. If your device has a pressure sensor, the App reads it on your device to measure local air conditions. This reading is processed on your device and is not transmitted.
- Camera and timeslip images (optional). The SCAN SLIP feature uses your camera to photograph a timeslip, or reads a screenshot you select. The numbers are read from the image entirely on your device (on-device text recognition) to pre-fill a run entry. Images are not uploaded, stored by us, or shared, and the text recognizer sends nothing to us or to third parties.
- Camera and microphone for RUN VIDEO (optional, Android). The RUN VIDEO feature records video of your pass through your camera, with sound from your microphone, and burns in your live speed and timing overlay. The clip is processed and saved on your device (to your own gallery) and linked to the run in your logbook. It is not uploaded or shared by the App; sharing is yours to do from your gallery.
- Bluetooth (optional). If you connect a Dragy GPS performance meter, the App uses Bluetooth Low Energy to receive position and speed data from your own device. That data stays on your phone; Bluetooth is not used for advertising, beacons, or positioning.
What we do NOT collect: no advertising identifiers (the App contains no ads or advertising SDKs), no analytics or tracking SDKs, no contacts, no access to your photo library beyond images you explicitly pick, no browsing data. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not build profiles.
2. How We Use Information
- To measure and display air conditions (density altitude, air density, and related readings);
- To retrieve local weather, forecasts, and ground elevation for your location;
- To compute run predictions from the data you log — entirely on your device;
- To read timeslips and record run videos — entirely on your device;
- To show drag racing events and tracks near you (distance is computed on your device);
- To provide and validate the optional subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play; and
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Information
We share information only as described here. Every service below is contacted over HTTPS.
- U.S. National Weather Service (NWS/NOAA) — your approximate coordinates are sent to api.weather.gov to return local weather observations and forecasts.
- U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) — your approximate coordinates are sent to epqs.nationalmap.gov to return the ground elevation at your location (used to convert pressure readings correctly).
- Iowa State University (Iowa Environmental Mesonet) — a weather station’s identifier and a time range are sent to mesonet.agron.iastate.edu to backfill historical weather observations. This request carries the station, not your coordinates.
- HPDash events feed — the App downloads its drag-racing event listings as a static file from deploy.hpdash.com. This request sends no coordinates, no identifiers, and no personal information; nearest-first sorting happens on your device.
- OpenStreetMap — if you open the pin-drop venue picker, map tiles are fetched from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers (© OpenStreetMap contributors). As with any map, the area you are viewing is implicit in which tiles are requested.
- Apple or Google — the optional subscription is processed by the Apple App Store (on iOS) or Google Play (on Android). See Apple’s Privacy Policy at apple.com/legal/privacy and Google’s at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Legal — when required by law or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Your Data, Your Control
- Export. You can export your complete logbook to a CSV file at any time from inside the App.
- Delete. Uninstalling the App deletes the App’s data from your device (run videos already saved to your gallery remain in your gallery, under your control). You can also clear the App’s data in your device settings at any time. Because we hold no copy of your logbook, there is nothing further for us to delete.
- Permissions. Location, camera, microphone, and Bluetooth are each optional and requested only when the feature that needs them is used. You may decline or revoke any of them in your device settings; the App remains usable — weather can be entered manually, and slips can be typed in.
- Subscription. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings (iOS) or Google Play › Payments & subscriptions (Android). If your subscription lapses, your logbook remains readable and exportable.
5. Data Retention
Your racing data, images, and videos are retained on your device until you delete them. Weather, elevation, events, and map requests are not logged by us. Subscription records are retained by Apple or Google under their respective policies.
6. Children
The App is a motorsports tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Security
Your data stays on your device, protected by your device’s own security. All network requests use HTTPS.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
